Bellingham weekend scene

Weekend itinerary

Fairhaven Friday, Chuckanut Saturday, bayfront Sunday

Walk Fairhaven Friday, follow Chuckanut Drive to Larrabee Saturday, then use Sunday for Boulevard Park, downtown coffee, and a final campus or museum stop.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

Fairhaven brick streets lead to the South Bay Trail, while Saturday follows Chuckanut Drive above the Salish Sea to Larrabee State Park.

Best length

2 nights

Arrive Friday for Fairhaven, give Saturday to Chuckanut Drive and Larrabee, then keep Sunday compact near the bayfront and downtown.

Stay

Hotel Leo

A historic downtown base with Camber, restaurants, breweries, and the Arts District in the surrounding street…

Main activity

Chuckanut Drive

Use Saturday for Chuckanut Drive and Larrabee, then keep lodging and meals in the district already serving that part of the day.

Pace

Bayfront Friday, scenic-road Saturday

The schedule works for a first visit because the longer drive gets one day and the two walkable districts take the shorter arrival and departure blocks.

Friday

Walk Fairhaven and the South Bay Trail before dinner.

Check in near downtown, the waterfront, or Fairhaven, then use the first evening for brick storefronts, the bay path, and dinner close to the room.

Saturday

Follow Chuckanut Drive to one real Larrabee stop.

Leave after coffee for WA-11, one safe viewpoint, and either Larrabee shoreline time or a forest walk. Oyster Dome replaces the scenic half-day.

4:30 PM

Afternoon

Return from Larrabee with time for the dinner route.

If dinner is at The Oyster Bar, stay south on Chuckanut. Otherwise return to downtown before the evening traffic and choose tacos, a brewpub, or pasta.

Sunday

Use the bayfront and downtown before departure.

Start with coffee, walk Boulevard Park or the waterfront, then choose WWU, Sehome Hill, or Whatcom Museum before I-5 or Amtrak.
